The former City of Nepean was named after Sir Evan Nepean, a British Undersecretary of State who held responsibility for British North American correspondence but is more well-known for operating a network of spies across Europe before a formal intelligence service was established. The City of Nepean was amalgamated with the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton in 2001 and became part of today’s City of Ottawa.
